Project 10073 Record: UFO Observation, 7 December 1967

On December 7, 1967, a civilian observer in Amanda, Ohio, reported sighting an unidentified aerial object. The observer, who claimed to have seen several 'space ships' previously, stated that he was at his back door at 10:03 PM when he noticed a small light moving at a slow rate of speed over the woods. Initially, he dismissed the object as a C-130 aircraft, noting that his home is located within the flight pattern of Lockborne Air Force Base. However, he became suspicious because the object did not cause the usual static interference on his television set that aircraft typically produce. Upon further observation, he described the object as having a definite disc shape with domes protruding from the top and bottom, and noted there were no visible means of power. The Air Force's Foreign Technology Division reviewed the report under Project 10073 and concluded there was insufficient data for a scientific evaluation. A letter dated December 13, 1967, signed by Colonel James C. Manatt, was sent to the observer requesting that he complete an AF Form 117 to provide additional details. The record indicates that this form was never returned by the observer.
