This document is a Project 10073 record concerning a UFO sighting that occurred on December 23, 1967, at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The primary witness, Airman Degenhardt, reported observing a yellowish, circular, solid object, approximately the size of a barracks window, at roof-top level. The object was observed for five minutes, during which it rose in an upward arc at 30 degrees to the west. A second witness, Sergeant Johnson, located in the control tower, also observed the object and described it as a balloon with a small light attached. The official conclusion of the investigation was that the object was likely a hot-air balloon, noting that the description was similar to that of 'garmet-bag' hot-air balloons. The investigation confirmed that there was no aircraft or scheduled balloon activity in the vicinity at the time of the sighting. The weather was reported as clear with 30 miles of visibility.
