Project 10073 Record: UFO Report - Lake Erie, 29 August 1967

On August 29, 1967, a witness in Pelee Point, Canada, reported observing several round, green lights over Lake Erie for a duration of three hours and 45 minutes. The lights, described as star-sized and constantly changing, were observed darting around the horizon. The witness, a resident of Detroit, Michigan, reported the incident to the Air Force. An investigation by Captain Lindsay A. Hayes of the 1st Combat Support Group (ADC) followed. The investigation included inquiries with the Cleveland Coast Guard, Cleveland ARTC, and the Sandusky Ohio Airport manager. While the Coast Guard confirmed they were not conducting a search operation at the time of the sighting, they noted that there were many private boats in the area. It was concluded that the lights were likely associated with these private vessels engaged in a search for missing skydivers who had landed in the lake on August 27. Radar data from the area showed no unusual traffic, and weather conditions were reported as clear initially, becoming cloudy and misty.
