Project 10073 Record — Anaheim, California, 28 July 1967

This document contains a Project Blue Book sighting report regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed in Anaheim, California, on July 28, 1967. The primary witness, a 13-year-old male, reported observing a single object between 12:55 A.M. and 1:03 A.M. The witness, along with his mother and two brothers, observed the object through 7x50 binoculars. The object was described as solid, having the brightness of an ordinary star, and displaying rotating lights that changed colors between red, green, white, and blue. The witness noted that the object hovered between two trees, moved over a third tree, hovered for approximately two minutes, and then moved slowly toward the Northwest. The witness compared the appearance of the object to 'two small bowls.' The U.S. Air Force, under Project 10073, evaluated the report and concluded that the description was consistent with an aircraft engaged in aerial advertising. A follow-up letter from Colonel James C. Manatt, dated August 21, 1967, informed the witness that the initial information provided was insufficient for a scientific evaluation and requested the completion of an FTD Form 164.
