Project 10073 Record — Fairplay, Colorado, 1 April 1967

On April 1, 1967, at approximately 1830Z, a civilian observer reported a sighting of an unidentified aerial object near Kenosha Pass, Fairplay, Colorado. The observer, identified as a retired funeral director, noted the object while driving and stopped to observe it. The object was described as being between oblong and circular in shape, resembling a cup, and was aluminium-silver in color. The witness estimated the size to be equivalent to two or three car lengths and noted that it lacked windows, a cockpit, wings, or tails. The object was observed for approximately one minute and thirty seconds. According to the report, the object hovered before descending straight down behind a tree line, leading the observer to conclude that it had landed. The weather conditions were reported as clear with excellent visibility. The sighting was initially reported to Dr. Condon in Boulder, who referred the witness to the Lowry Command Post. The incident was also reported to State Patrolman Clan Wichman of Fairplay, Colorado, who attempted to approach the landing site but was prevented from doing so by snow.
