This document contains a series of reports and correspondence regarding a UFO sighting that occurred on March 25, 1967, near Lake Canton, Illinois. The primary witnesses were a 15-year-old boy and his father, Edward L. Sale, who served as the Director of Canton Civil Defense. According to the reports, the boy was flying a toy glider in his backyard when he observed an egg-shaped, bright red object hovering approximately 100 feet overhead. The object reportedly made a sound similar to a washing machine in its spin cycle and pulsated with light. The object initially headed north before making a sharp turn to the northeast and disappearing into the haze. The weather at the time was described as humid and overcast with low visibility due to recent rain. Captain Edward J. Orenic, the investigating officer, noted that the location of the sighting was directly on the centerline of airway V116 and that a VOR approach procedure turn for the Peoria airport would occur over the area at an altitude of 1200 feet. Captain Orenic hypothesized that the object was likely an aircraft, and that the low ceiling and poor visibility conditions caused the witnesses to misinterpret reflected light. The investigation remained ongoing at the time of the report, with further records checks being conducted by the Peoria Air National Guard.
