Project 10073 Records: UFO Sightings in Kirksville, Missouri (February 1967)

This document contains records from the 790th Radar Squadron regarding two UFO sightings near Kirksville, Missouri, in February 1967. The first incident, occurring on February 22, involved a bright, multi-colored light (red, white, and green) observed by multiple witnesses, including a records clerk at Grim Smith Hospital. The object was described as the size of an automobile, hovering for 30 minutes before disappearing. The official conclusion for this event was that it was the planet Venus. A second incident occurred on February 27, involving a large, bright red light compared to a police car's emergency light. This object was observed by a meter reader for the Missouri Power and Light Company. The object moved erratically, stopping and reversing direction before disappearing in the west. The official conclusion for this second event was 'Aircraft (possible)'. The investigating officer, 1st Lt. William E. Alt, noted that the reports from multiple witnesses were consistent and that the observers definitely saw something 'out of the ordinary,' despite the difficulty in obtaining full reports from all witnesses due to a college quarter break.
