Project 10073 Record — 8 Feb 67, Palisades Parkway, New York

On February 8, 1967, at approximately 0130Z, a civilian witness traveling by automobile on the Palisades Parkway in New York observed an unidentified aerial object. The witness reported seeing an oblong-shaped object with red and white lights traveling in a straight path from right to left. The object appeared to have portholes underneath that were dimly illuminated by a pale white light. The observation lasted for approximately 10 seconds before the object disappeared behind trees on the left side of the road. The witness, who was driving alone with the car radio on, reported no sound. Weather conditions at the time were clear and cold with high, thin, broken clouds and visibility exceeding 15 miles. The investigating officer, Captain John W. Cannon of the 4850th CGS, USAF, concluded that the sighting was consistent with an aircraft observation. Given the proximity of La Guardia and Kennedy airports, the report suggests the object was likely a multi-engined airliner departing from one of these facilities.
