On the evening of December 8, 1966, between 2015 and 2030 hours, a 15-year-old witness observed an unidentified aerial phenomenon north of Springfield, Ohio, near Route 68. The witness, who was outdoors in a residential area, reported seeing a single object for approximately 15 minutes. The object was described as a round, flickering light that traveled along a level plane in a north-south direction. The witness noted that the object appeared gold in color with a small red light flickering off to the side, which later changed to a white light. The witness compared the shape of the object to a flashlight with light emitting from the front end, or alternatively, an Indian arrowhead. During the observation, the object disappeared behind a tree before reappearing in another part of the sky. A neighbor reportedly observed vapor or steam emanating from the object. The witness, who used binoculars during the sighting, estimated the object's speed at roughly 500 MPH and its distance at between 5 and 10 miles. The witness initially reported the event to the Springfield Highway Patrol, who referred them to the Air Force. The official conclusion reached by the Foreign Technology Division (FTD) was that the sighting was possibly an aircraft, noting that the description was consistent with reported aircraft observations.
