UFO Report — North Sacramento, California, 2 November 1966

On 2 November 1966, at 0510Z, a 25-year-old female witness in North Sacramento, California, reported observing a round, dark object with three white lights in the front. The witness, who was standing on her front porch, described the object as being approximately 50 feet wide and flying at an altitude of 100 feet. She reported hearing a loud, clear humming sound that was distinct from a jet aircraft. The observation lasted for approximately 30 seconds before the object and the sound disappeared suddenly. The report was filed with Dispatcher Fred McClure of the Operations Branch (BBP) at McClellan Air Force Base. An investigation conducted by the Air Force determined that a C-124 aircraft was landing at McClellan AFB at the time of the sighting. The investigating officer, Captain J. H. McCurley, concluded that the witness had observed this C-124 aircraft on its final approach. Captain McCurley noted in his report that the complainant was a 'highly excitable person' who had previously reported hearing shuffling noises and seeing footprints on her fence, suggesting a tendency toward imaginative interpretations of events. Weather conditions at the time were reported as clear with visibility of 5 miles, though there was some haze and smoke.
