Project 10073 Record — Willow Grove NAS, Pa. — 18 October 1966

This document contains the official Project Blue Book record and associated correspondence regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon sighting on 18 October 1966 at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station in Pennsylvania. Two seamen on duty reported observing a single, glowing white object for approximately three minutes. The witnesses described the object as appearing like an orange, which traveled toward the northwest, disappeared, and then returned to travel toward the east before finally vanishing among the stars. The witnesses, who were familiar with aircraft and falling stars, insisted that the object did not resemble either. The report includes a technical information questionnaire completed by the witness, which notes that the object made no sound and was observed under clear, dry weather conditions. Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, initially requested further information from the witness in a letter dated 14 December 1966, noting that the initial report was insufficient for evaluation. The witness subsequently provided additional details, including sketches of the object's path and a comparison of its appearance to a glowing orange.
