The incident occurred on July 29, 1966, approximately 23.5 miles southeast of Condon, Oregon. The witnesses observed a light for one hour and 45 minutes, describing it as a silver or aluminum object shaped like a top spinning on its side, which appeared smaller than a baseball held at arm's length. The object was noted to be brighter than any star and changed color to red as it moved slowly toward the west before disappearing into a timber area. The report includes detailed meteorological data for the area, including wind speeds at various altitudes, cloud cover, and visibility. The official conclusion reached by the Staff Intelligence Officer of the 26 Air Division was that the object was the star Antares, which was positioned at an azimuth of 175 degrees and an elevation of 25 degrees at the time of the sighting.
