Project 10073 Records: Colorado Springs Sightings (May 1966)

This document contains records from Project Blue Book regarding two separate unidentified aerial phenomena sightings reported in Colorado Springs, Colorado, during May 1966. The first incident, occurring on May 5, 1966, involved a single object described as a star-like light that changed colors between red, orange, and green. The witness, a student at Colorado College, reported the object as stationary. The Air Force sent an FTD Form 164 to the witness for further details, but it was never returned. Major Edward L. Stricker, the Assistant Base Operations Officer at Peterson Field, provided a preliminary analysis suggesting the object was a bright star. The second incident occurred on May 29, 1966, and involved two objects described as greenish lights circling at approximately 45 degrees elevation. The witness, Norman Presley, a local minister, observed the lights for 30 to 40 minutes as they moved in easterly and southeasterly directions before fading from view. Major Stricker's analysis for this event concluded that the objects were likely reflections of commercial searchlights on a cloud or haze layer. Both reports were processed under Project 10073 and include incoming staff messages from the Department of the Air Force.
