Project 10073 Record — Staten Island, New York, 14-15 April 1966

This document contains a Project Blue Book sighting report regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed over Staten Island, New York, on the morning of 14-15 April 1966. A civilian witness reported observing a large, pulsating red circle of light from an attic window at approximately 04:30. The witness watched the object for five minutes as it drifted slowly eastward before disappearing. The witness later submitted a formal questionnaire to the U.S. Air Force, noting that they had been inspired to report the incident after reading about a similar object in Reader's Digest. The witness described the object as being high in the sky, stationary at times, and distinct from an airplane. The Air Force investigation, led by Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., concluded that the sighting was an observation of the planet Venus, noting that the planet was at 108 degrees azimuth and 10 degrees elevation at the time of the incident.
