Project 10073 Record — Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, April 1966

This document contains a Project Blue Book record regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon reported on April 2, 1966, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The witness, an FAA Electronic Maintenance Technician, observed an oval-shaped object approximately 30 feet long and 10 feet high. The object was described as having orange and blue exhaust, and it initially hovered before rising and moving in a south-southeasterly direction at a high rate of speed. The witness estimated the speed at 40 to 50 miles per hour and noted that the object was in sight for approximately 15 minutes. The witness also reported a two-minute power loss occurring at the time of the sighting. The Air Force, specifically Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., determined that the initial information provided was insufficient for a full evaluation and requested that the witness complete a formal FTD Form 164. Internal correspondence from the Air Force Special Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base noted that the report was 'sketchy' and that they had 'no idea of identification.' The official conclusion recorded on the Project 10073 form states that there was nothing in the report to indicate the objects were not aircraft.
