UFO Sighting, 25 November 1965

This document is an official Department of the Air Force incoming message, dated November 26, 1965, regarding a UFO sighting reported on November 25, 1965, in Dallas, Texas. A civilian observer reported seeing a round, possibly egg-shaped object in the sky below the moon, estimated to be the size of a large aircraft. The object was described as very bright with a reddish halo, and the witness reported seeing red shafts of light emanating from and then withdrawing back into the object. The object remained stationary for approximately one hour. The observer, located in the southern part of Dallas, was noted as being sincere but inexperienced in providing technical details. Air Force personnel at Carswell AFB investigated the report, noting that a weather balloon had been released from the base at 2313Z on the same day. Although the nearest GCI site at Perrin AFB reported no radar plot, the official conclusion provided by Lt. Col. William E. Ellison of the SAC Command Post at Carswell AFB was that the sighting was likely the weather balloon, despite the witness's inability to identify it as such.
