Project Blue Book Correspondence and Sighting Report — Rivergrove, Illinois, November 1965

This document contains correspondence from Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, dated January 6, 1966, addressed to a resident of Rivergrove, Illinois. The correspondence concerns a report of an unidentified flying object (UFO) sighting from November 1965. Major Quintanilla notes that the initial report forwarded from O'Hare International Airport contained conflicting information, specifically regarding whether the object was stationary or moving, and whether it was following an aircraft. He requests that the witness and her children complete the attached Form 164s to clarify the details. The document includes the completed sighting report form, which describes the object as a 'flat long' white object, estimated to be the size of a 'pie plate.' The witness reported that the object tilted, moved from East to West, and appeared to follow an aircraft. The sighting lasted approximately 30 minutes. In a handwritten note on the form, the witness explains that her children observed the object for three days before she decided to look, and that she later realized the object was an advertisement plane for 'Polk Brothers' that had been circling different sections of the city. An internal note from an Aircraft Dispatcher concludes the file, stating that there is no way to ascertain exactly what the family was looking at, but notes their residence is in an area with a high volume of air traffic from Midway and O'Hare airports.
