Project 10073 Record — UFO Sighting, Ozone Park, New York, 4 September 1965

This document contains a Project 10073 record regarding a UFO sighting reported by a 14-year-old high school student in Ozone Park, New York, on September 4, 1965. The witness reported observing an object at approximately 8:30 p.m. EST that was traveling in a northeasterly direction. The witness noted that the object did not twinkle, and upon using binoculars with a power of 393 at 1000 yards, described the object as having a triangular shape, a very bright white color, and a silverish-white halo. The witness requested information from the Air Force regarding the nature of the object, specifically asking if it was a satellite. The Air Force, through the Foreign Technology Division and the Office of Information, responded to the witness on September 28, 1965. The official assessment concluded that the description, duration, and direction of flight were characteristic of satellites. The Air Force stated that the Echo II satellite was traveling northeast over New York at 7:28 p.m. EST on the date of the sighting. They suggested that if the witness's time was actually Eastern Daylight Time, they had observed Echo II; otherwise, they likely observed one of the other 30 satellites or satellite components visible to the naked eye.
