Project 10073 Record: UFO Sighting, 1 September 1965, Manistee, Michigan

On September 1, 1965, at approximately 2030 hours, a witness located seven miles south of Manistee, Michigan, observed two unidentified lights that appeared to be the wing lights of an airplane. The witness, accompanied by her fiancee and parents, noted that the objects made no sound and the sky was very clear with no apparent wind. Initially traveling in a southeasterly direction, the objects reversed course to the northwest without banking. A third light subsequently appeared from a southerly direction, also traveling at a high speed in a northwesterly direction, though it did not overtake the first two objects before they disappeared over Lake Michigan. The witness attempted to photograph the objects, capturing two frames (numbers 11 and 12) on her camera. She noted that the objects were positioned to the upper right of the moon. The witness subsequently contacted the U.S. Department of Defense to report the sighting and offered the undeveloped film for analysis. The Department of Defense, specifically the TDEW office and the Civil Branch of the Office of Information, acknowledged the report and requested that the original negatives be forwarded for analysis, promising their return upon completion of the evaluation.
