Project 10073 Record — Washington, D.C., 24 September 1965

This document contains the official record and correspondence regarding a UFO sighting reported in Washington, D.C., on September 24, 1965. The witness, a civilian whose age was recorded as 25 but whose handwriting suggested a child, reported observing five or six multi-colored objects flying at 'tremendous speed' from the northeast to the northwest of Washington, D.C. The observation lasted approximately 10 seconds on a cloudy night. The witness provided conflicting information throughout the reporting process, including inconsistencies regarding the duration of the sighting, the number of objects, and the time of the event. Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, wrote to the witness on September 29, 1965, stating that the initial information provided was insufficient for evaluation and requesting that the witness complete an additional form (FTD Form 164). The final conclusion reached by the Air Force was that the objects were birds, noting that the description of the sighting was characteristic of a flight of birds and that the witness appeared confused.
