Project 10073 Record — Sighting Report, Corpus Christi, Texas, 27 August 1965

On 27 August 1965, at approximately 0430Z, a civilian witness reported observing an unidentified aerial object in Corpus Christi, Texas. The witness, identified as AC3 Helen P. Adams of the Navy, observed the object from the backyard of a relative's home. The object was described as a round, glowing white entity, appearing to be the size of a dime at arm's length. The witness reported that the object was overhead when first spotted and moved in a straight path toward the northeast before disappearing. The observation lasted for approximately one minute. The witness reported no sound, trail, or unusual features associated with the object. Weather conditions at the time included scattered clouds with 15 miles of visibility. Following an investigation under Project 10073, the Air Force concluded that the sighting was a report of the ECHO II satellite. The discrepancy in timing was attributed to a 15-minute error, which officials deemed to be within the normal range of reporting deviation for satellite observations. The report was processed as an unclassified incoming message by the Department of the Air Force and forwarded to the Defense Intelligence Agency.
