On August 23, 1965, a radio operator at the San Marcos Airport in Colombia reported a sighting of an unidentified aerial object. The observer noted that the object, which exhibited a steady light, changed its position constantly and shifted through various shapes, including cone-shaped with a rounded base, elongated, square, and finally moon-shaped. The observation lasted for 33 minutes, during which the object was estimated to be at an altitude of approximately 1,000 feet and a distance of 15 to 24 kilometers. After 23 minutes, the object was obscured by clouds. The observer noted that the light remained steady and was eventually lost from view. An Avianca aircraft, HK 174, also reported a similar sighting of a luminous object near the base of a cumulus cloud at 1312 local time. The official conclusion reached by the investigating authorities was that the object was the planet Jupiter, citing its position at 15 degrees elevation and 065 degrees azimuth. The report notes that the area where the object was sighted is a desolate, relatively uninhabited swamp.
