Project 10073 Record: Sighting Reports in Kingston, New York (August 1965)

This document contains two Project 10073 records detailing unidentified aerial phenomena sightings reported in Kingston, New York, in August 1965. The first incident occurred on August 16, 1965, at 0355Z. The witness, a civilian dealership president, described a white, starlike object with a yellowish tinge moving from south to north at a rapid rate. The object appeared to move erratically before disappearing into cloud cover. The Air Force investigation concluded the object was likely a satellite, possibly ECHO II, noting that the duration was consistent with such a sighting. The second incident occurred on August 26, 1965, at 0200Z. A 16-year-old student reported a white object with no distinguishable shape, which appeared to hover overhead before fading from sight while moving on a south-to-north course. The investigating officer, 2d Lt John Barnauskas, Jr., noted that while a satellite was a possible explanation, he was unaware of any satellites traveling in a south-to-northerly direction. Both reports were forwarded by the 4603d Air Base Group at Stewart Air Force Base to the Air Force Systems Command (FTD) in accordance with AFR 200-2.
