Project 10073 Record — Thackery, Ohio, 15 August 1965

This document is a Project 10073 record detailing a UFO sighting reported by a Chief Deputy Sheriff in Thackery, Champaign County, Ohio, on August 15, 1965. The witness, who was in a convertible at the time, observed a bright, star-like object for approximately 15 minutes. The object appeared to move from the East, turn North, and stop when changing directions. The witness noted that the object was very fast, made no sound, and left no vapor trail. The witness compared the object's size to the largest star it passed by, though noted it was difficult to determine its actual size due to the distance. The witness also reported that they had been contacted by another individual, Robert Shofer, who claimed to have seen four such objects, one of which was much larger than the others, and that the three smaller ones disappeared while the larger one continued North. The official Air Force conclusion for the sighting was that the object was likely an aircraft, with the investigator noting that the report was clear enough to evaluate but that the duration and the witness's description suggested the witness's imagination may have been a factor.
