On 9 August 1965, at 0312Z, a civilian science teacher in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, observed an unidentified aerial phenomenon. The witness, whose reliability was noted as unknown, reported seeing a single object that appeared as an incandescent white light. The object was described as being slightly larger than a kitchen match head held at arm's length, with no discernable features, no tail, no trail, and no exhaust. The witness reported that the object made no sound and followed a straight flight path toward the southwest on a heading of 210 degrees. The observation lasted between four and six seconds. The weather conditions at the time were reported as clear with five percent cirrus cloud cover and unlimited ceiling. The report was processed by the 788th Radar Squadron at Waverly AFS, Iowa. The official conclusion reached by the investigating intelligence officer was that the sighting met the description of a meteor. No physical evidence was found, and no interception or identification action was taken.
