The witness described the object as a solid, dull grey, bell-shaped structure, consisting of two bells placed one upside down on top of the other, joined at the bottoms with a band around the middle. The object was estimated to be 10 feet in diameter and was seen hovering approximately 100 feet above trees. The witness reported that the object exhibited erratic movements before disappearing suddenly, described as a flash of light. The witness reported the incident to the WM&G Radio Station in Oakland, Maryland, on the same day. The U.S. Air Force investigation concluded that the object was a balloon. The investigator noted that the description and motion were consistent with a balloon observation, and that the reported disappearance and flash of light were likely misinterpretations by the witness, possibly caused by the sun reflecting off the object at a greater distance than the witness estimated.
