Correspondence Regarding Unidentified Flying Object Sighting in Junction City, Kansas

This document file contains correspondence between two youths, identified as Messrs Whiteaker and Wolford, and the United States Air Force regarding a series of sightings of unidentified flying objects near Junction City, Kansas. In their initial letter dated November 5, 1964, the youths described seeing strange objects flying over a ravine, entering it, and then exiting. They also inquired about the requirements for children aged 12-14 to participate in the space program, expressing a desire to travel to Venus. Major Maston M. Jacks of the USAF Office of Information responded on November 24, 1964, providing an FTD Form 164 for the youths to complete to facilitate further evaluation of their sighting. He also addressed their query regarding the space program, noting that a college education was a predominant requirement for participants. A subsequent letter from the youths dated December 12, 1964, indicated they had lost the initial form and requested another. They also mentioned finding a 'mechanical gadget' with 'a lot of chemicals on it' in an old barn, which they had taken home to study. The Air Force internal records note that two copies of Form 164 were sent to the witnesses, but as they were not returned within 60 days, the case was officially closed and categorized as having 'insufficient data for evaluation.'
