Project 10073 Record: Sacto Area, California Sighting, 4 September 1964

This document details a UFO sighting and subsequent encounter reported by a 27-year-old male civilian in the Sacramento area of California on the night of September 4, 1964. The witness, while on a bow and arrow hunting trip near Lock Leven lakes, became separated from his companions. He reported observing three silvery, round, flat objects that hovered and circled his position. He sought refuge in a tree, where he observed two human-like entities in silver suits without necks, and a third entity he described as a 'robot.' The witness reported that the entities emitted a noxious gas, causing him to lose consciousness, and that they attempted to dislodge him from the tree. He fired arrows at the entities and later set fire to his own clothing to attract attention. The entities reacted to the fire by ascending. The witness was later interviewed by military personnel from the 552nd AEW&C Wing at McClellan AFB, including Captain McCloud and SMSgt R. Barnes. The investigation included a tape-recorded interview and the collection of physical evidence, specifically an arrowhead and a canteen. The official conclusion reached by the military was that the encounter was 'psychological' in nature.
