Project 10073 Record Cards and Incoming Staff Messages regarding Sioux City, Iowa UFO Sightings

This document consists of a series of Project 10073 record cards and incoming staff messages from the Sioux City Air Defense Sector (SAGE) to the Air Defense Command (ADC) regarding a recurring unidentified aerial phenomenon observed in early July 1963. Witnesses, including a staff weather officer, reported a white, circular object, approximately the size of a quarter or half-dollar, exhibiting a flashing high-intensity light. The object was observed on July 2, 3, 6, and 7, 1963. Reports describe the object moving in a zig-zag pattern at extremely high speeds and altitudes, with some observations lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. Despite the unusual flight characteristics, the official conclusion reached by the reporting officials was that the object was a satellite, specifically identified as the ECHO I satellite. The intelligence officer, 2nd Lt. Andrew R. Davis, noted that while the zig-zag path raised some questions, the repetition of the sightings over several days supported the satellite conclusion. The document also includes a request from the reporting officers for a procedure to access satellite orbital data to prevent the filing of extraneous UFO reports, thereby reducing the workload on reporting and receiving agencies.
