Project 10073 Record Card — Steelville, Missouri, 14 September 1962

This document contains a Project 10073 record card and associated correspondence regarding a sighting report from Steelville, Missouri, dated 14 September 1962. A civilian witness wrote a letter to President John F. Kennedy claiming that objects were landing in the woods and on Highway 8 near her home. The witness described the objects as looking like bright stars when in the sky and like a big balloon when on the trees. She further claimed that the objects caused her television set to malfunction, producing a buzzing sound and displaying a picture of the object. The witness requested that someone be sent to investigate the matter. The Air Force Office of the Secretary handled the correspondence, noting that the witness had specifically requested that they not write back to her. The case was investigated by the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). The official conclusion recorded on the project card was that the visual sightings were likely due to hallucinations and the television interference was likely caused by aircraft interference from scheduled airlines. The OSI report further noted that the witness was considered mentally disturbed in connection with these sightings.
