PROJECT 10073 RECORD CARD — Liberal, Kansas, 2 August 1962

On the night of August 2, 1962, a series of sightings occurred in Liberal, Kansas, involving multiple reports of bright objects. A Central Airlines agent received a telephone call reporting blue-green objects moving from East to West at high speed. A pilot, Captain [illegible], flying from Wichita to Liberal, confirmed seeing these objects for two seconds. Additionally, a witness identified as Mr. [illegible] observed a white object moving from East to West at high speed at approximately 2100 hours. Reports of these sightings were also noted in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Pueblo, Colorado; Garden City, Kansas; and Guymon, Oklahoma. The FAA stated that no aircraft were scheduled in the area at the time. The official evaluation concluded that the stationary object reported was the planet Jupiter, which was at its maximum brightness of -2.4 magnitude at a 10-degree elevation in the East. The moving objects were evaluated as meteors.
