Project 10073 Record Card — Hardinsburg, Kentucky, 4 August 1961

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card, a memo routing slip, and a handwritten letter regarding a UFO sighting in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, on August 4, 1961. The witness, who was at a drive-in theater with their family, reported observing an object at approximately 11:30 PM. The object was described as being the size of the Echo satellite, moving from a westerly to an easterly direction at a 45-degree elevation in the southern sky. The witness noted that the object appeared to wobble, then turned and returned in the opposite direction. Initially, the witness thought it was the Echo satellite, but later concluded it was a controlled spacecraft, noting that if it had been a jet at that altitude, it would not have been visible. The witness also included a secondary account from their mother, who claimed to have seen a pipe-shaped object, approximately 30 feet long, traveling vertically in 1957. The official military evaluation on the record card concludes that despite the lack of specific duration and speed data, there was sufficient information to categorize the sighting as an aircraft. A handwritten note on the routing slip adds a more informal remark: 'Prob Aircraft. Don't know what mama saw!!'
