Project 10073 Record Card — Sighting Report 7 July 61

On July 7, 1961, at 1130 PDT, a civilian observer reported sighting three round, white, unidentified objects at coordinates 38 degrees 55 minutes N, 119 degrees 57 minutes W in Nevada. The objects were not in formation and remained in the area for approximately two hours. After this duration, two of the objects departed in a southwest to northeast direction, while the third remained in the area. The observer reported the incident via telephone to the Reno Civil Defense. No other reports were received by the Sheriff's office or local base facilities. The San Francisco Air Defence Sector was contacted to check for radar contacts or other sightings; they reported no unidentified objects, but noted that they had target aircraft and interceptions in the area during the same time period. Consequently, the official conclusion reached was that the objects were likely these aircraft. Weather conditions at 1157 PDT were reported as clear with 15-plus visibility and surface winds from the SSE at 6 knots, with a temperature of 76 degrees Fahrenheit.
