This document collection details a UFO sighting reported on December 8, 1959, near Riviera Beach, Florida, and five miles southeast of Point Tuna, Bahamas. Multiple reports were received regarding an object traveling from the northwest to the southeast, originating from the direction of Cape Canaveral. The object was described as being at a very high altitude and was observed for approximately two minutes before it appeared to flame out or disappear. The sighting occurred at 1916Z. Following the initial report, the Coast Guard and military authorities conducted an investigation, including an aerial search by a VP aircraft, which yielded negative results. The official conclusion reached by the Air Force, as documented on the Project 10073 record card, identified the object as an Atlas missile launched from Cape Canaveral. The documentation includes staff messages between military commands, including the Commander, Seventh Coast Guard District, and the Commander, Air Defense Force, Atlantic, confirming the coordination of the investigation.
