Project 10073 Record Card — 18 mi NNE Terre Haute, Indiana, 13 Oct 59

This document contains a series of reports and a record card regarding a UFO sighting that occurred on October 13, 1959, approximately 18 miles north-northeast of Terre Haute, Indiana. The primary witnesses were Captain Kenneth D. Brooks and Lieutenant John W. Kimmerly, both students in the Aircraft Maintenance Officers Course at Chanute Air Force Base, who were flying in a T-28A aircraft at 6,000 feet MSL. The witnesses reported observing a round, green light that appeared to be the size of a dime. The object was described as hazy around the edges, resembling a flashlight shining through a green fog or a green flare through an overcast. The object was seen descending rapidly in an almost vertical path, disappearing instantaneously after a duration of less than one second. The weather conditions were reported as clear with haze above the aircraft. Following the incident, a report was filed in accordance with Air Force Regulation 200-2. The Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) evaluated the report and concluded that the characteristics of the sighting were consistent with a meteor, and the case was officially closed as such.
