PROJECT 10073 RECORD CARD - Central New Jersey Sighting, August 1958

This document is a Project 10073 record card detailing a sighting of an unidentified flying object in Central New Jersey, specifically near Bound Brook, in August 1958. The witness described the object as a silver, twisted piece of foil that appeared to follow the curvature of the earth, moving up and down hills. The object was estimated to be traveling at speeds between 100 and 1500 mph at an altitude ranging from 150 to 3000 feet. The duration of the observation was reported as five to seven seconds. The witness noted an unusual amount of air activity in the area at the time, including two commercial airliners, three Air Force or Navy jets, and one civilian plane. The report includes sketches of the object's possible shapes, reinforcing the description of it resembling foil blowing in the wind. The official evaluation of the incident was severely hampered by the fact that the sighting was not reported until December 1960, more than two years after the event took place. Because of this significant delay and the lack of pertinent information provided by the witness, the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) determined that a proper investigation was impractical. Consequently, the case was officially closed and categorized as an unreliable report due to insufficient data for a meaningful evaluation.
