Project 10073 Record Card — Portland, Oregon, 6 November 1957

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and a subsequent combined message regarding a UFO sighting that occurred in Portland, Oregon, on November 6, 1957. Two witnesses, a housewife and a male employee of the Boyd Rueber Company, observed a round, red object in the sky at approximately 0300Z. The object was described as being smaller than a nickel at its largest point and was noted for having a trail similar to ashes flipped from a cigarette, including sparks. The witnesses reported that the object appeared to be glowing or resembling fire and that it seemed to increase and diminish in size while being observed. The sighting lasted for approximately five minutes, during which the object moved in an East to West direction before it could no longer be seen. One of the observers noted that a passenger-type aircraft was flying in the vicinity at the time of the sighting. Weather conditions at the time were reported as having partial obscuration, a scattered layer at 16,000 feet, and surface visibility of one mile. The official conclusion reached by the reporting authorities was that the event was a probable aircraft sighting. The document was transmitted by HQ 337th Fighter Group to various commands, including the Air Technical Intelligence Center, under the provisions of AFR 200-2.
