Project 10073 Record Card — Kingston, Pennsylvania, 22 August 1957

On August 22, 1957, at approximately 2330Z, a civilian family in Kingston, Pennsylvania, observed two circular objects in the sky for a duration of one hour and fifteen minutes. The first object was described as being twice the size of a basketball and white in color, while the second was twice the size of a grapefruit and orange in color. The objects were reported to be moving in a westerly direction at an estimated altitude of 15,000 feet. The observers noted that the objects moved slowly, then faster, before eventually disappearing over the horizon. The report, filed by the 648th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at Benton AFS, notes that the weather conditions were clear with very good visibility. The observers included a US Navy seaman who was reported to be sober at the time of the sighting. The incident was investigated under Project 10073. Official conclusions reached by the Air Technical Intelligence Center identified the two objects as the planets Venus and Jupiter. The report also mentions that a commercial aircraft was sighted 15 minutes after the objects faded from view. The sighting was noted as having occurred in a highly populated area, yet it was reported by only one family.
