This document is a Project 10073 record card and associated teletype correspondence detailing a UFO sighting reported on December 4, 1956, in Ridgewood, New York. The witness, a 42-year-old teacher at CCNY and alternate coach for the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team, observed a pearly white object that appeared similar to a snowball or disk. The object was seen falling vertically from the vapor trails of a jet aircraft that was being intercepted by fighter aircraft. The observation lasted between one-half and five seconds. The witness noted that the object followed a bomber trajectory that turned sharply northeast, while the object itself turned slightly southeast before disappearing into the horizon. The official investigation, conducted by the 26th Air Division, concluded that the object was chaff dropped by a B-47 aircraft during fighter interceptor training exercises occurring in the area at that time. While an initial preliminary analysis by the Chief of Collection and Dissemination Division at HQS CONAC suggested the object might have been a weather balloon, the final report definitively categorized the incident as a chaff drop.
