Project 10073 Record Card — Brainid Field, Connecticut, 7 October 1956

On 7 October 1956, at 2350Z, a sighting of six circular, light-green objects was reported near Brainid Field, Connecticut. The witnesses, including a stock controller, an engineer, and a student, observed the objects for approximately two and a half minutes. They described the objects as being the size of a quarter held at arm's length, exhibiting vertical flight patterns, and emitting a high-pitched hum. The objects were observed both visually and through 7-power binoculars, and it was noted that they changed color from green to red. The report was processed by the 656th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at Saratoga Springs, New York, and forwarded to the Air Defense Command at Ent Air Force Base, Colorado. The investigating officer, 1st Lt. John J. Huelsman, noted that while two F-86D aircraft were diverted to the area for identification, they made no visual contact. Furthermore, there was no radar contact with the objects. The official conclusion reached by the reporting and evaluating officers was that the sighting was caused by three RC-121 aircraft operating in the area at the time of the incident. The report was filed in accordance with Air Force Regulation 200-2.
