Project 10073 Record Card — Plymouth, New Hampshire, 4 September 1956

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and an associated teletype report detailing a UFO sighting that occurred on September 4, 1956, in Plymouth, New Hampshire. The primary witness, Stanley C. Hodhey, along with three other individuals, observed a single, round, bright red object in the sky. The witnesses described the object as being the size of a grapefruit held at arm's length. The object was observed directly overhead, moving in a due east direction. During the observation, which lasted for one hour and thirty-five minutes, the object was reported to move from side to side by several feet and to wink out and reappear multiple times. The weather conditions at the time were reported as very good with no clouds. The report was investigated by 1st Lt. Donald L. Marksbury of the 654th AC&W Squadron. The official conclusion reached by the investigating officer and concurred with by the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) was that the sighting was caused by the planet Mars, which was positioned in the East at 25 degrees elevation and 110 degrees azimuth at the time of the report. The documentation includes teletype communications between the 654th AC&W Squadron at USNAS Brunswick, Maine, and various Air Force commands, including the Air Defense Command at Ent AFB and the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson AFB.
