PROJECT 10073 RECORD CARD — 22 August 1956

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and associated teletype communications regarding three separate UFO sightings reported on August 22, 1956, in the vicinity of Fontana and La Jolla, California. The sightings involved three civilian witnesses. The first sighting involved a single round object, described as the size of a pea, exhibiting a brilliant red light and a fiery red tail, likened to a comet. The second sighting also involved a single object, described as five inches in length, with a brilliant red color and a fiery tail. The third sighting involved two round objects, also the size of a pea, displaying yellow-white lights. These objects were observed flying in formation, though they spread out, and were noted to be flying straight and level before making turns and fading out. The duration of the observations was estimated at five to ten minutes. The teletype correspondence provides additional technical details, noting that the objects appeared to travel at approximately 115 knots. The reports were cross-referenced, and the third sighting was noted to have been observed four to five miles north of the post, traveling south before turning southeast. Despite the unusual descriptions provided by the witnesses, the official conclusion recorded on the Project 10073 card is that all three sightings were evaluated as aircraft (a/c).
