Project 10073 Record Card and Associated Correspondence — Shafter, California, 15 August 1956

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and associated military teletype communications regarding a UFO sighting on 15 August 1956 in Shafter, California. A Ground Observer Corps (GOC) observer reported seeing a single, round, white object that appeared to be the size of a pinhead. The object was observed for approximately eight minutes, during which time it was noted to be drifting slightly to the left and right. The sighting occurred under clear weather conditions with 15 miles of visibility and calm winds. The observer was stationed at a GOC post in Shafter. The military report, originating from the 750th ACWRON in Boron, California, was transmitted to the Air Defense Command at Ent AFB and the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) at Wright-Patterson AFB. A subsequent corrective message was issued to clarify that there was no radar contact associated with the sighting. The final assessment recorded on the project card concludes that the object was a balloon.
