The primary witness, civilian Harold Hyde, reported observing a single triangular-shaped object that changed color from red to green. The object was described as stationary and capable of vertical flight, with no sound reported. The observation lasted for over two hours under conditions of clear, perfect visibility. T/Sgt Bernard Thompson is also listed in connection with the report. The military investigation, conducted by the 755th AC&W Squadron at Williams Bay, Wisconsin, and reviewed by the Air Technical Intelligence Center, concluded that the sighting was not an anomalous craft but was instead generated by the star Altair. This conclusion was supported by the observation of bright stars by pilots in the vicinity and the GOC's report that jets had passed under the object several times, leading to the determination that the object was a star.
