This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and associated correspondence regarding a UFO sighting that occurred in Lafayette, Indiana, in October 1955. The witness reported observing a metallic, parachute-shaped object approximately 20 feet in diameter. According to the witness, the object was initially seen tumbling toward them before stopping overhead. It then moved slowly to the right before suddenly accelerating toward the sun. The witness noted that they were able to run and keep up with the object during its slow movement phase. The witness did not report the incident until three years later, citing uncertainty about who to contact, until they encountered the address in the book 'Secrets of Space Flight.' On 23 October 1958, Major Lawrence J. Tacker of the United States Air Force responded to the witness, acknowledging the letter but stating that the incident was too old to conduct a formal investigation or evaluation. The Air Force provided the witness with a Department of Defense fact sheet dated 6 October 1958 regarding unidentified flying objects.
