Project 10073 Record Card — Muscatine, Iowa, 26 August 1955

On August 26, 1955, a group of four individuals, including a state representative, a salesman, and a paint store manager, observed an unidentified aerial phenomenon near a Ground Observer Corps (GOC) post in Muscatine, Iowa. The sighting lasted for approximately two hours. The witnesses described the object as star-shaped and appearing the size of a pea. When viewed with the naked eye, the object appeared to shift between red and green colors; when viewed through binoculars, the colors were reported as red, green, and white. The object remained stationary in a limited area, exhibiting movements described as ascending and descending. The incident was reported to the 788th ACWRON in Waverly, Iowa, and subsequently processed under Project 10073 and Air Force Regulation 200-2. The official conclusion reached by the evaluating agency, the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, was that there was a strong possibility the object was a star, noting that no positional data was included in the report to support a more complex analysis.
