Project 10073 Record Card — Monroeville, Pennsylvania, 19 July 1955

This document consists of a Project 10073 record card and an associated teletype report regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed near Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on 19 July 1955. The report describes a single, cylindrical, yellowish-orange object observed at high altitude traveling in a northerly direction. The object was noted to have no visible wings or empennage. The sighting occurred shortly after sunset under conditions of scattered small puffy clouds. Military and civilian authorities investigated the incident, contacting local observatories, which reported no astronomical activity. A check of radar facilities, including GCI NOR AACS radar, yielded no relevant data, and the Pittsburgh Filter Center received no reports. There was no balloon activity in the area, although a USAF F-86D aircraft was conducting a local flight at the time of the sighting. An intelligence officer from the 71st Finceptron attempted to contact the witness at New Texas Road, Pittsburgh, but the individual denied making the original report to the NCOD, and a complete observer report could not be obtained. The official conclusion suggests the sighting may have been the F-86D aircraft or sunlight reflecting on clouds.
