Project 10073 Record Card and Information Report — Norton AFB, California, 21 May 1955

On May 21, 1955, at 2105Z, two military personnel stationed at Norton Air Force Base, California, observed three spherical objects in the sky. The witnesses, identified as a Major and a 1st Lieutenant from the 27th Air Division, were described as very reliable. The objects were initially observed as silver-gray and arranged in a 'V' formation. As the objects disappeared, they reportedly turned a pale fluorescent green. The witnesses noted that the objects possessed a short, conical vapor-type tail and were observed while the witnesses were watching two flights of jet fighters passing to the east. The duration of the sighting was estimated between 20 and 45 seconds. The objects were observed under conditions of bright sun, scattered high haze, and occasional small cumulus clouds. A check of the local direction center confirmed the presence of the two jet flights but yielded negative results for any other aircraft in the area. The official conclusion reached by the headquarters was that the sighting was likely a result of sun reflection on aircraft or shadows, given that the sun's azimuth and the azimuth of the objects were approximately the same. The incident was documented on a Project 10073 record card and an information report, both of which categorized the data as insufficient for a definitive evaluation.
