Project 10073 Record Card — Bowling Green, Kentucky, 18 February 1955

On 18 February 1955, at 0225Z, a sighting of unidentified aerial phenomena occurred over the campus of Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The witnesses, identified as Joe Henry Potter and 21-year-old college student Ann Lyen, observed circular, orange-colored objects for a duration of 45 minutes. The objects were initially reported as a V-formation of six to eight units, followed by one to two additional objects, all traveling from west to east and leaving a vapor trail. The incident was documented on a Project 10073 record card and subsequently reported via military cable (RD121) to the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, as well as to the Air Defense Command and the 35th Air Division. The official evaluation of the sighting suggested that the group of six to eight objects was likely aircraft engaged in a typical refueling pattern. The initial single object that triggered the report was also suspected to be an aircraft, while a third object was identified as likely being an astronomical body. The objects remained in sight after the witnesses departed the area.
