Sighting of UFOB — Green City, Mo. 14 Feb 55

This document is an Air Intelligence Information Report dated February 15, 1955, concerning a UFO sighting that occurred on February 14, 1955, near Green City, Missouri. The witness, a civilian radio and TV repairman, reported observing a large, metallic, disc-shaped object while traveling east on Highway 6. The object was estimated to be 100 feet in diameter and 12 feet thick, featuring visible windows. The witness observed the object hovering at an altitude of approximately 500 feet for 15 to 20 seconds before it disappeared into a draw. The witness reported the event to the local newspaper, which subsequently notified the 700th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at Kirksville Air Force Station. An investigating team, including Captain Laurence D. Watson, Lieutenant Arthur T. Young, and Airman Second Class Robert M. Kerss, interviewed the witness and inspected the site, but found no physical evidence. The official conclusion noted that the brevity of the sighting and the delay in reporting made further investigation impractical, though it was suggested that a helicopter could have potentially caused the sighting.
